Runway's Gen-3 Turbo makes video 7x faster at half the cost

Published Reach 40

Runway just launched image-to-video for Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, generating video clips seven times faster and for half the price of the original model while maintaining comparable quality. It is now open across all plans, with free users also getting trial access.

Runway just rolled out Image to Video capabilities for Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, making video generation noticeably quicker and cheaper.

Seven times faster at half the cost

According to Runway, the new Turbo Image to Video model generates clips seven times faster than the original Gen-3 Alpha, while cutting the price in half.

Runway claims the model still matches original performance across many typical use cases despite the massive speedup.

The feature is available across all subscription tiers right away, and free users also get a trial to test it out.

Runway also teased that more model improvements, advanced control mechanisms, and real-time interactive possibilities are coming down the pipeline.

Why it matters

For creative workflows, image-to-video is usually far more reliable than pure text prompts because it lets creators lock in lighting, framing, and character design before hitting generate. But when every generation takes minutes and burns heavy credits, iterating on complex storyboards becomes painful.

Turbo fundamentally lowers that friction. Slashing wait times by 7x and cutting costs in half makes rapid experimentation practical for daily production. It also signals a broader shift across the AI video landscape: pushing raw visual fidelity is no longer enough, and real-world adoption will belong to models that are cheap and fast enough to support real-time workflows.
