Luma makes Dream Machine 10x faster, cuts video generation to 20 seconds

Published Reach 40

Luma AI just launched Hyperfast video generation, boosting Dream Machine v1.6 inference speeds by 10x to deliver full-quality clips in under 20 seconds. The company noted it didn't rely on lighter "turbo" or distilled models, keeping output quality intact. It's live today for all paid subscribers and API customers.

Generating an AI video clip used to mean clicking generate, walking away, and making a cup of coffee while you wait.

Luma AI wants to end that waiting game. The team just announced Hyperfast video generation, boosting inference speed by 10x.

Full-quality clips in under 20 seconds

With this update, users can now generate full-quality Dream Machine v1.6 clips in less than 20 seconds.

Crucially, Luma says this isn't powered by a stripped-down "turbo" release or a distilled model sacrificing detail. It delivers the exact same output quality at ten times the speed. The feature is already live for all paid subscribers and API customers.

Why it matters

Speed is the single biggest barrier keeping AI video in the toy phase rather than a seamless production workflow. Waiting minutes per iteration kills creative momentum. Bringing generation down to sub-20 seconds turns video generation into an interactive, near-real-time trial-and-error process.

We think Luma's refusal to compromise quality with distilled shortcuts is a smart move. It raises the baseline expectations for API pipelines and commercial video editors, and it definitely puts pressure on rivals like Runway to speed up their own flagship models.
