Google just updated Gmail's "Help me write" feature with a new "Polish" option across web and mobile. Users can jot down rough notes, and Gemini will instantly turn them into a formal draft ready for review with one click. The rollout also adds convenient mobile shortcuts on Android and iOS for Gemini Workspace and Google One AI Premium subscribers.

Google just made drafting emails on your phone a lot less painful. On August 20, the company rolled out updates to Help me write in Gmail, introducing a new Polish feature alongside mobile shortcuts for Android and iOS.

Rough notes turn into clean emails

Gemini already let users formalize, elaborate, or shorten their drafts. The new Polish option takes messy bullet points or quick notes and instantly reshapes them into a polished, formal draft ready to send.

The feature is live across web, Android, and iOS, with new shortcuts placed directly inside the mobile apps.

It is available to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Google One AI Premium subscribers. Google also noted that the feature is on by default for both admins and end users, with no option to turn it off.

Why it matters

This is a smart quality-of-life update. Drafting formal emails on a phone keyboard is notoriously tedious, and transforming rough thoughts into coherent sentences fits real-world workflows far better than prompting AI from scratch.

However, forcing the feature on by default without an opt-out toggle might frustrate users who prefer a clean, distraction-free inbox.

If you are already paying for an eligible Gemini plan, it is definitely worth trying on your morning commute, though giving the draft a quick once-over before hitting send remains essential.
