Adobe brings Firefly to iOS and Android, adds Google and OpenAI models

Published Reach 39

Adobe just launched its Firefly generative AI app on iPhone and Android, bringing text-to-image, text-to-video, and Generative Fill to mobile devices. The app even lets users tap into third-party models like Google's Imagen and Veo, with all projects automatically syncing back to Creative Cloud desktop and web workflows.

Adobe just brought its generative AI suite straight to your pocket with a brand new mobile app for iOS and Android.

The standalone Firefly app gives creatives the ability to generate images, text-to-video clips, and image-to-video animations on the go, without waiting to get back to a laptop.

It also packs in familiar Photoshop magic like Generative Fill and Generative Expand, letting you tweak or extend assets directly from your phone.

Everything you create automatically syncs across your Creative Cloud account, so you can start an idea on the subway and pick it right back up in Premiere or desktop Photoshop.

Like the desktop version, certain mobile generations burn monthly Firefly credits tied to your Creative Cloud or standalone plan.

Opening the doors to rival models

What makes this launch particularly interesting is that Adobe is no longer keeping Firefly locked to its in-house tech.

Users on mobile can switch between Adobe's own engines and third-party powerhouses, including Google's Imagen 3 and 4, Veo 2 and 3, and OpenAI's image models.

Adobe is also upgrading Firefly Boards, its collaborative canvas tool launched in beta back in April.

Boards now supports video remixing and generation powered by Firefly and Google's Veo 3.

Even more heavyweight partners are joining the roster, including Luma AI's Ray 2, Ideogram 3.0, Runway's Gen-4, and Pika, with Adobe promising they will roll out across other Firefly features soon.

Why it matters

For designers, social media managers, and mobile creators, downloading the app is practically a no-brainer.

Most mobile AI generators produce isolated files that get lost in your camera roll, but Adobe's immediate Cloud sync makes mobile ideation directly actionable in professional desktop suites.

From an industry perspective, we think this shows Adobe playing its hand brilliantly. Instead of waging an unwinnable war to keep Firefly ahead of every frontier AI lab, Adobe is turning its platform into the universal interface for creative AI.

Whether you prefer Runway for video or Google for imagery, Adobe wants to be the canvas where the work actually gets orchestrated and finished.

The real test will be commercial safety. Firefly built its early enterprise reputation on commercially clean training data, and expanding to third-party models could muddy those legal waters if licensing isn't completely transparent.
