Adobe adds Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash image model to Firefly
Adobe just integrated Google’s new Gemini 2.5 Flash image model directly into Firefly and Adobe Express. Creators can now tap Google's visuals across Text to Image and Firefly Boards, with paid subscribers getting unlimited generations through September 1. It cements Adobe’s strategy of turning Firefly into a multi-model creative hub while promising not to train on user data.

If you use generative AI for creative work, you know the tabs-juggling dance: generate in one tool, upscale in another, download, and drag into Photoshop for actual editing.
Adobe is trying to kill that friction entirely. On August 26, Google officially launched its Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, and Adobe integrated it into Adobe Firefly and Adobe Express on day one.
Starting immediately, users can pick Gemini 2.5 Flash Image directly inside Firefly's Text to Image workspace, Firefly Boards (beta), and Adobe Express.
Pick the model, keep the canvas
Adobe is pitching this multi-model setup as the fastest route from prompt to final layout.
Social creators can generate a batch of stylized assets with Gemini in Firefly, then instantly bounce them to Express to resize, add animations, auto-generate captions, and schedule posts.
Marketers and SMBs can use it inside Express to swap backgrounds, insert branded products into existing campaign photos, and generate quick visual variations across formats.
Pro designers can use Gemini 2.5 Flash Image for early concept exploration, then pull the vector or raster output directly into Photoshop or Illustrator for layer-by-layer cleanup.
Adobe has quietly built a massive model bazaar inside its ecosystem. Alongside its homegrown, commercially safe Firefly engines, it already offers models from OpenAI, Black Forest Labs, Runway, Pika, Ideogram, and Luma AI.
Crucially, Adobe confirmed that user content uploaded or generated through partner models won't be used for AI training, backed by partner contracts. Every AI-generated output will also carry Content Credentials.
To drive early adoption, Adobe is offering unlimited Gemini 2.5 Flash Image generations for Firefly and Creative Cloud Pro paid subscribers through September 1, while new free users get 20 free generations.
Why it matters
Adobe made a smart pivot here: instead of trying to win every single image benchmark against frontier labs, it's becoming the universal front-end for all of them.
For creators and marketers, this is a massive quality-of-life upgrade. You get the distinct visual flair of Google's newest image model without surrendering Adobe's precision editing tools or your commercial safety guardrails.
For the AI industry, this signals that model access alone is no longer a defensible moat. The real battleground is shifting to workflow integration and who owns the final export button.
There is an obvious tension: leaning heavily on rivals like Google and OpenAI risks commoditizing Adobe's own Firefly models over time.
We think it's a trade Adobe is happy to make for now. As long as Creative Cloud remains the hub where creative assets actually get finished and shipped, letting competitors power the raw generation step keeps subscribers locked in.
