xAI just confirmed that users can now ask Grok anything simply by replying to an X post with "grok". Powered by the rollout of Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini, the update turns any reply thread into a live AI chat without leaving the timeline.
X is finally testing free access to its AI chatbot Grok, kicking off with users in New Zealand. Previously locked behind a Premium paywall, the free tier caps Grok-2 at 10 queries every two hours and requires a phone-verified account. Opening up to non-paying users should give xAI a much broader feedback loop to take on ChatGPT.
xAI just overhauled its entire inference stack from scratch in three days using the open-source SGLang framework. Grok-2 mini is now running twice as fast with slightly improved accuracy, while the full Grok-2 model gained much smoother multi-host inference speeds.
