Krea AI launches Krea Chat into open beta
Krea AI just rolled out Krea Chat, an open beta tool powered by DeepSeek that brings image and video creation directly into a conversational interface. Users can generate visuals from text, borrow styles from uploaded references, or convert generated images into short video clips. It is free to try with a registered account, though compute limits apply.
Remember when generating an AI image or turning it into a clip meant juggling separate tabs, sliders, and workflow nodes? Krea wants to sweep all that clutter into a single chat box.
Creative AI platform Krea launched an open beta for Krea Chat. The tool brings both image and video generation into a single conversation feed, and it is free to try.
First teased on January 30, the real surprise under the hood is a partnership with DeepSeek, which powers the conversational interface.
Text, reference images, and quick video loops
Krea already offers tools for images, videos, animations, and real-time generation. In Krea Chat, the team is keeping the initial rollout focused on images and videos.
Inside the chat, you can type classic text prompts or upload reference images for style transfer. In hands-on testing, feeding it a cowboy-style Pikachu yielded a matching cowboy dog, while a beach-lounging Einstein inspired a cat portrait in the exact same vibe.
If the first attempt misses the mark, quick-action buttons below the reply let you ask for more variations or switch styles.
Turning a still into motion is just as streamlined. Once you resize a generated image to 16:9, a Make Video button pops up directly beneath it to kick off video generation.
Watch the compute meter
Krea Chat is free for now, but there is a catch: your free compute time disappears fast.
Testers noted that after generating just six sets of images, the system warned that 80% of their compute quota had been burned through. That left insufficient credits to render the accompanying video.
Switching to fresh accounts ran into server traffic walls, with high demand blocking video generation entirely. If you want to check it out today, pace yourself on the text prompts first before testing the heavier video pipeline.
Why it matters
We see Krea Chat as another sign that creative AI suites are abandoning complex dashboard design in favor of conversational canvases. Wrapping image and video pipelines into one chat stream dramatically lowers the friction for casual creators.
It is also a notable commercial use case for DeepSeek. Using DeepSeek to handle natural language steering while tapping specialized models like Flux 1.1 Pro Ultra for the pixels proves how nimble startups can combine top-tier open tech into slick workflows.
That said, high compute costs remain the elephant in the room. A single short creation session quickly draining the free tier shows that fluid, multimodal chat is still expensive to run. For casual dabbling, it is worth a spin, but heavy creators will likely hit the limits almost immediately until Krea stabilizes the underlying capacity.
