Getting a high-res AI image isn't hard anymore, but getting the exact aesthetic and composition you actually want is still a frustrating lottery.

Krea AI just announced the public beta of Krea 1, its first dedicated image model, now open to everyone with free access.

Teaming up with Black Forest Labs

According to Krea, the model was trained in collaboration with Black Forest Labs, the team behind the popular FLUX models.

Krea 1 focuses on two main upgrades: superior aesthetic control and noticeably higher image quality.

Users can test the new model directly in the browser during the public beta without paying upfront.

Why it matters

For digital creators and designers, prompt adherence and taste matter far more than raw pixel counts. Given that Krea 1 is free to try right now, it is definitely worth running a few prompts to see if its aesthetic steering actually reduces workflow friction.

Strategically, this is a smart move. Krea built its reputation on real-time canvas tools and slick interfaces. Partnering directly with top-tier foundation model researchers at Black Forest Labs allows Krea to tailor the model weights specifically for its own workflow, rather than simply wrapping someone else's generic API.
