Google Sheets adds 'Help me organize' to build tables from prompts
Google just started rolling out its Duet AI-powered "Help me organize" feature to Google Sheets for Workspace Labs testers. A new side panel lets you enter a natural language prompt—such as a sales event agenda or client roster—and instantly generates a customized table template. It takes the dread out of starting from a blank spreadsheet, though it's currently limited to trusted testers.

Staring at a blank spreadsheet is an everyday dread for most office workers. Google thinks it has found an easy way out by having AI build the structure for you.
Google began rolling out "Help me organize" in Google Sheets. Originally unveiled at I/O 2023 as part of Duet AI, the feature is now gradually landing for trusted testers in the Workspace Labs program.
Instant templates from a single prompt
The feature sits in a side panel inside Google Sheets. You can type in natural language prompts like an agenda for a one-day sales kickoff event with status updates, or a client and pet roster for a dog walking business.
Duet AI then suggests and generates a ready-to-use table template. Once inserted, you can customize every column and row. Google expects it to handle complex tracking tasks, and it might even surface logistics or columns you completely forgot to include.
This update follows similar Duet AI rollouts across Workspace, including image generation in Google Slides and "Help me write" across Gmail and Google Docs.
Why it matters
Blank spreadsheets are notoriously intimidating. We think using AI to spit out tailored templates instead of generic stock grids is a genuinely useful shortcut for non-technical users.
Right now, it focuses primarily on scaffolding rather than advanced data analysis or complex formulas. As Microsoft accelerates its own Copilot integration into Excel, Google needs these functional Duet AI tools in users' hands quickly, even if the features are starting small.
