Google Meet gets smarter with Gemini note-taking and caption scroll

Published Reach 36

Google just rolled out new Gemini updates for Google Meet business users. The "Take notes for me" tool now automatically captures action items into a suggested next steps section, with bullet points linking straight back to quotes in the transcript. You can also scroll back through live captions mid-call if you missed a remark.

Zoning out during a remote team sync happens to the best of us. On March 26, Google rolled out a Workspace feature drop adding three Gemini updates specifically for Google Meet business users.

Catching up without scrubbing the recording

First up is an upgrade to Google Meet's "Take notes for me" feature. Meeting notes now automatically include a dedicated "Suggested next steps" section, gathering action items and follow-ups in one clean place before everyone hangs up.

Gemini is also connecting those notes directly to the full meeting transcript. When you turn on transcription, any point in the generated notes links back to the exact quote in the transcript, making fact-checking instant.

Finally, Google added scrollable live captions during calls. If you step away for a minute or miss a fast-paced remark, you can scroll back through the captions while the meeting is still happening to catch up without interrupting anyone.

Why it matters

We think these are genuinely useful quality-of-life tweaks for teams drowning in virtual meetings. Instead of forcing someone to scrub through an entire video recording just to verify who promised what, Gemini anchors summarized notes directly to verbatim proof.

It tackles AI vagueness and hallucination in the smartest way possible: by keeping the raw transcript just one click away. For business teams already inside Google Workspace, skipping manual action-item tracking makes staying in the Google ecosystem look even more practical.
