Google Meet puts Gemini on note-taking duty

Published Reach 37

Google just rolled out its "Take notes for me" feature in Google Meet for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Powered by Gemini, it captures discussions in real time, generates action items, and automatically sends a tidy recap to Google Docs and your inbox. All participants get a notification when it's on.

Nobody likes being the designated note-taker in a meeting while trying to actively contribute to the conversation.

Google is solving that headache by rolling out its "Take notes for me" feature in Google Meet. Available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as eligible Workspace business customers, the tool is now live on web and mobile in select languages.

Instant docs and email recaps

Meeting hosts can turn it on during a call by clicking the pencil icon at the top of the Meet screen, or toggle it on by default in settings. Whenever note-taking is running, all participants receive a heads-up notification.

Powered by Gemini, the feature captures dialogue in real time, generates a summary, and tracks key action items. Once the call wraps up, the notes are automatically saved to a Google Doc in Drive and an email recap lands straight in your inbox.

Why it matters

This is a practical quality-of-life upgrade that takes aim at standalone AI meeting bots. Having notes auto-populate into Google Docs and hit your Gmail inbox removes friction and eliminates the need for clunky third-party recorder extensions.

We think baking this directly into paid tiers is a smart retention play for Google AI subscriptions. However, availability is currently limited to high-tier plans and select languages, so global teams juggling multilingual calls will still need to wait before ditching their current meeting transcription tools.
