Google rolls out AI Max for Search to all advertisers

Published Reach 34

Google just launched AI Max for Search campaigns in beta to all advertisers globally, offering a one-click setup to optimize search ads using Google AI. The update brings built-in one-click A/B testing across Google Ads platforms and APIs, with custom brand-safety text guidelines rolling out later this fall.

AI takes the wheel for Search ads, with extra guardrails

All advertisers globally can now access Google's AI Max for Search campaigns in beta, rolling out across Google Ads, Google Ads Editor, Search Ads 360, and the Google Ads API.

Google pitches AI Max as a one-click setup that weaves its latest AI models into standard search campaigns. To convince skeptical performance marketers, Google built one-click experiments right into the campaign flow, letting teams A/B test AI optimization without overhauling existing accounts.

Google is also rolling out a new "text guidelines" feature this fall for both AI Max and Performance Max. Basically, it allows marketers to set brand-safety guardrails, steering the AI to generate high-performing ad copy that still adheres to business guidelines.

Why it matters

Marketers have long been burned by Google's black-box automation, where AI-generated copy either hallucinates, sounds painfully generic, or strays far from brand guidelines. Providing native A/B testing and brand-safety parameters is a smart move to get hesitant ad buyers on board.

For Google, this is about keeping high-margin Search ad dollars locked inside its ecosystem as AI search engines and third-party tools scramble for market share. The clever part here is letting marketers keep one hand on the steering wheel while nudging them toward full automation.

That said, guidelines are only as strong as their real-world enforcement. Whether Google's guardrails actually keep ad copy aligned with strict brand standards remains to be seen once they roll out this fall.
