Anthropic turns Claude into 11 workplace specialists with zero code

Published Reach 48

Anthropic just open-sourced Knowledge Work Plugins, a collection of role-specific workflows for sales, legal, marketing, and more. Built entirely on Markdown and JSON with zero code, each plugin equips Claude Cowork and Claude Code with domain playbooks and tool connectors. Teams can fully customize them simply by editing text files.

Knowledge Work Plugins is an official open-source repository from Anthropic built specifically for non-technical professionals. It packages real-world business workflows across sales, legal, finance, marketing, customer support, data, and bio-research into ready-to-use domain specialists.

Created in January, the project has already gathered 29,800 stars on GitHub, adding over 2,600 stars in the past week alone.

What it does

The repository ships with 11 role-based plugins. Alongside core departments, it includes productivity tools, enterprise search, and a meta-plugin designed specifically to help you build custom plugins.

Install the sales plugin and type a single slash command, and Claude preps your briefing documents before a client call. Switch to the legal plugin, and it immediately scans contracts and NDAs for standard compliance risks.

Each setup comes preconfigured to connect with daily workplace tools like Slack, Notion, HubSpot, and Snowflake.

Crucially, every workflow supports graceful degradation. If you have not hooked up a dedicated tool like Ahrefs, the marketing audit skill falls back to standard web search, or asks you to paste data directly rather than throwing an error.

How it works with zero code

The standout design choice here is that the entire repository contains zero lines of programming code. Every component is completely file-based, relying exclusively on Markdown and JSON.

Each plugin is structured as a directory of instructions. The brains live inside individual skill files: YAML frontmatter handles automatic triggering, while the Markdown body gives Claude step-by-step operating procedures.

These skills are cleanly split between front-facing commands and background knowledge bases. For instance, a drafting skill handles workflow routing, while a separate background guide supplies headline formulas, word counts, and SEO checklists on the fly.

Tool connections are also completely tool-agnostic. The instruction files use generic placeholders instead of vendor names, meaning you can swap external data providers inside a JSON configuration without rewriting any operational logic.

How to run and customize it

If you use Claude Cowork, you can install any plugin with a single click through the visual interface, and the skills activate automatically.

It is also fully compatible with Claude Code for developers and terminal users.

The real leverage lies in local customization. By simply forking the repository and tweaking the Markdown files to match your company jargon, review gates, and brand voice, you turn general playbooks into private team agents.

Why it matters

Most teams get bogged down building complex agent frameworks with endless glue code. Anthropic proves that you do not need heavy runtimes when you can encode institutional knowledge directly into structured prompts.

Anyone managing operations, growth, or legal workflows should clone anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins and inspect the skill files. It provides an immediate productivity boost, but more importantly, it offers a masterclass in how to turn human domain expertise into reliable AI workflows.
