Elon Musk just revealed that xAI plans to launch Grok 2 this August, promising a major leap in real-time knowledge and reasoning. Musk noted the team did heavy lifting to purge junk from Internet training datasets, while teasing that Grok 3—powered by 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs—is slated for the end of the year.
Grok's standalone web codebase was just found to contain direct references to Midjourney, backing up earlier rumors of a partnership between xAI and the leading image platform. If true, Grok 1.5 could soon leverage Midjourney via API to output visuals, alongside upcoming image upload and vision capabilities.
xAI just closed a massive $6 billion Series B round backed by Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and others. The company plans to use the capital to launch its first commercial products, build advanced infrastructure, and accelerate future R&D. Following its Grok-1.5 and Grok-1.5V releases, xAI now has the war chest to stay in the frontier compute race.
xAI just introduced Grok-1.5, boasting major upgrades in reasoning and math alongside a 128,000-token context window—a 16x jump over its predecessor. It scored 50.6% on the MATH benchmark and 74.1% on HumanEval. Early testers on 𝕏 will get access in the coming days.
