Tencent open-sources cinema-grade PBR 3D generator Hunyuan 3D 2.1
Tencent Hunyuan just launched Hunyuan 3D 2.1, labeling it the first fully open-source, production-ready PBR 3D generative model. It generates realistic materials like leather and bronze with full physics-based lighting, releases all weights and training code, and runs straight on consumer-grade GPUs.

Hunyuan 3D 2.1 is Tencent's new open-source 3D generative model that builds production-ready 3D assets complete with physically based rendering (PBR) materials.
What it does
The big feature here is cinema-grade PBR material synthesis. Instead of generating flat colored meshes, it outputs realistic materials like leather and bronze that properly interact with dynamic lighting out of the box.
Tencent went fully open source on this release. Beyond just the model weights, they opened up the training and inference code, data pipelines, and the complete architecture, making it fully accessible for fine-tuning.
It also runs directly on standard consumer GPUs. Creators can clone the code from GitHub, test the weights and interactive space on Hugging Face, or experiment directly through the web-based Hunyuan 3D Creation Engine.
Why it matters
For indie game devs and 3D artists, baking high-quality PBR maps has always been a tedious bottleneck. Getting usable materials generated locally on a personal graphics card saves serious time during early prototyping.
What makes this drop stand out is the level of openness. We think releasing the actual training scripts and data pipelines alongside weights gives small studios real freedom to adapt the model to their own artistic style, making it well worth downloading for a test spin.
