Runway's MCP brings video generation straight into Claude and ChatGPT
Runway just launched an MCP integration that lets users generate images and videos directly inside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Replit. Creators and developers can now tap into flagship models like Gen-4.5 and Kling without switching tabs or leaving their existing workflows. It essentially gives text and coding agents native access to top-tier creative media generation.
If you've ever had to stop coding or writing just to hop over to a browser tab and prompt a video generator, Runway is trying to remove that friction entirely.
Runway just launched an MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration, allowing its image and video generation tools to plug directly into platforms like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Replit.
Users can now trigger visual generation inside their existing workspaces. The integration supports Runway's Gen-4.5, as well as models like Seedance 2.0, GPT Images 2.0, and Kling.
Video generation right inside your editor
Basically, developers building an app in Cursor or Replit no longer need to leave their environment to source visual assets. You can just instruct your coding agent to generate them on the spot.
Content creators brainstorming scripts in Claude or ChatGPT can also spin up video storyboards and imagery without juggling separate windows.
Why it matters
For users, the main upside is killing context switching. Downloading renders, re-uploading them to codebases, and managing separate subscriptions across tabs slows everything down. Bringing media generation inside developer and conversational agents speeds up prototyping.
For the broader industry, it is another clear sign that MCP is becoming the standard plumbing for agentic workflows. Instead of trying to force every user into its own web interface, Runway is meeting users where they already work.
We think it is a smart distribution play, but it comes with a trade-off. Once your generative tools live inside someone else's workspace, Runway risks becoming an invisible backend pipe while Claude or Cursor owns the user relationship.
