Polycam brings Gaussian Splatting to the browser

Published Reach 40

Polycam just rolled out Gaussian Splatting support directly on its web platform. Processing is free, splats render fast right inside the browser, and you can export the resulting .ply file with one click. It puts cutting-edge radiance field rendering into the hands of casual creators without requiring beefy local GPUs.

Want to experiment with 3D Gaussian Splatting without wrestling with Python scripts or beefy local GPUs? Polycam just made it a lot easier.

3D capture platform Polycam announced that it officially shipped Gaussian Splatting support directly on the web.

Fast browser rendering and free exports

According to Polycam, cloud processing for the new feature is completely free to use.

The resulting splats render smoothly right inside the web browser without requiring dedicated software.

Users can also export the completed captures as standard .ply files to use across other tools.

Why it matters

Gaussian Splatting has quickly become one of the most exciting developments in 3D capture, but getting started usually meant navigating complex open-source setups.

By putting the processing pipeline into a free browser interface, Polycam is removing the biggest friction points for curious creators.

Allowing raw .ply exports is also a smart move. Instead of locking captures inside a walled garden, it lets 3D artists integrate the outputs directly into their existing pipelines. If you have been waiting for an easy on-ramp to test Gaussian splatting, this is worth checking out.
