Quora's Poe now lets you build full AI apps with a prompt

Published Reach 40

Poe just launched Poe Apps, letting users create and share interactive visual applications simply by describing them. Powered by Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the tool writes the UI and JavaScript while letting creators chain together models like GPT-4o and Flux. The apps are shareable on the web, with mobile support and creator monetization planned next.

Quora’s AI aggregation platform Poe just took a massive step past simple chatbots. The platform launched Poe Apps, a new feature that lets users generate complete, interactive web interfaces on top of any combination of AI models using plain text.

The tool behind this is called App Creator, and it runs on Anthropic’s newly released Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Users simply type out what kind of tool they want, specify the underlying models, and the system generates the visual front end alongside custom JavaScript logic. The apps can run right alongside Poe’s chat window or operate as standalone visual tools, and the underlying code remains fully accessible for manual tweaks.

Mixing frontier models in one box

The most intriguing part is model interoperability. In your prompt, you can instruct the app to pull from completely different providers. Quora demonstrated this with an example app that turns standard photos into 3D anime art by chaining OpenAI’s GPT-4o with Black Forest Labs’ Flux-Pro-1.1. Another demo app removes unwanted objects from images using Bria’s Bria Eraser model.

For now, users can share their created apps with others on the web, with iOS and Android mobile support planned down the line. Every time someone runs an app, the model compute pulls directly from that user’s Poe point balance. Free accounts get daily allotments, while $5-per-month subscribers draw from flexible packages. App Creator itself is currently being offered at a discounted early-access rate, and Quora explicitly hinted that direct creator monetization is on the product roadmap.

Why it matters

This is a smart play that highlights Poe’s unique moat against OpenAI and Anthropic. While tools like ChatGPT Canvas and Claude Artifacts lock you inside a single walled garden, Poe acts as an open playground. Letting a user combine OpenAI’s reasoning models with third-party image or video generators like Veo 2 inside one clean visual wrapper solves a real developer headache.

For everyday creators, it eliminates the need to spin up servers, manage API keys, or deploy front ends just to build a prototype. If you have a repetitive multi-step workflow, it is definitely worth testing right now.

That said, there are obvious limitations. As the reports note, the complexity of apps generated by this kind of workspace is still relatively constrained, and you are heavily dependent on Claude’s one-shot coding reliability. But as coding models advance, Poe is positioning itself less as a chat client and more as an end-to-end app store for generative micro-tools.
