Perplexity connects to your doctor and your smartwatch

Published Reach 39

Perplexity just launched Perplexity Health, a new feature linking electronic medical records from 1.7 million providers with wearables like Apple Health and Fitbit. Instead of generic web results, answers combine your clinical history and lab work with peer-reviewed medical citations. Health data is encrypted and won't train models, rolling out first to U.S. Pro and Max users.

Searching for medical symptoms online usually ends in disaster. You look up a minor ache and immediately get funnelled into SEO-heavy articles that convince you the worst has happened.

Even if you try asking an AI, it operates in the dark. It knows medical theory, but it has no idea what your blood test looked like yesterday or how poorly you slept all week.

Perplexity is trying to fix that disconnection with Perplexity Health, a new feature built directly into Perplexity Computer.

Connecting the medical dots

Right now, personal health data is an absolute mess. Lab results live in one portal, prescriptions sit in an app, and your daily biometric trends are locked inside your wearable.

Perplexity Health connects those silos by tapping into electronic health records across more than 1.7 million care providers, alongside Apple Health.

Wearable support is also baked in through direct integrations and partners like b.well and Terra API. It works with Fitbit, Ultrahuman, and Withings at launch, with ŌURA and Function coming soon.

Once connected, users get a dashboard tracking biomarkers and trends. When you ask a question, the AI pulls context from your clinical history, recent lab panels, and live wearable metrics simultaneously.

Instead of general advice about an elevated resting heart rate, the response accounts for your actual workout earlier that morning, your cardiac history, and recent blood tests.

Because it runs on Perplexity Computer, the system can also execute multi-step tasks, such as generating a visit-prep summary before seeing a physician or building a marathon training schedule around your fitness data.

Built on clinical sources, not SEO farms

Perplexity stresses that answers are rooted in peer-reviewed medical literature and clinical guidelines rather than internet ranking copy. Every response includes direct links to primary sources.

On the security side, health data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Perplexity states the data will never be sold or used to train AI models, and users can revoke access and delete data at any time.

To keep guardrails grounded in reality, the company also formed a Health Advisory Board made up of physicians, researchers, and health tech leaders.

The feature is rolling out over the coming weeks to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, with more regions slated to follow later.

Why it matters

This looks like a genuinely smart wedge for Perplexity. Instead of pretending to be an autonomous AI doctor, it positions itself as an intelligent prep tool for your real doctor visits.

For anyone managing chronic conditions, tracking complex lab work, or following serious athletic training, being able to synthesize wearable metrics with formal medical records in one prompt is genuinely useful.

It also changes the stakes in the AI search race. Google and OpenAI have broad medical domain knowledge, but Perplexity is moving aggressively into private data orchestration by linking up with 1.7 million care providers.

That said, the stakes could not be higher. Personal health is the most guarded data layer consumers have, and even with encryption guarantees, building lasting patient trust is an uphill climb. Any hallucination involving dosage or lab interpretation will invite instant regulatory scrutiny.
