Perplexity rolls out video generation for Pro and Max users

Perplexity is turning its search engine into a mini video studio.

Perplexity announced the launch of AI video generation across web, iOS, and Android platforms. The feature is rolling out to paid users, with Pro subscribers getting 5 videos per month, while Max tier subscribers receive 15 videos monthly with enhanced quality.

Instead of just returning summaries and source links, Perplexity now allows users to turn prompts and research ideas directly into moving clips inside the query flow.

Perplexity pitches the feature as a way to quickly visualize concepts without jumping across separate tabs. That said, the strict limits make it clear this is designed for quick ideation rather than high-volume production.

Why it matters

We think this is less about taking on dedicated video suites and more about making Perplexity an all-in-one workspace you never have to leave.

For everyday users and casual creators, getting a few context-aware video clips right inside your research thread is a great perk for presentations and quick mockups. But with only 5 to 15 clips a month, it won't replace tools built for serious production.

By gating video generation behind Pro and Max plans—and reserving better quality for the top tier—Perplexity is trying to balance crushing compute costs while giving power users a reason to upgrade. The real test is whether the output quality can justify such a stingy quota.
