OpenAI stretches Sora 2 to 25 seconds
OpenAI just leveled up Sora 2 with a new Storyboards feature on the web for Pro subscribers. The update also extends video generation limits across the board: all users can now generate up to 15-second clips on mobile and web, while Pro users on the web can push that to 25 seconds. It makes multi-shot storytelling with AI far more practical.
Anyone who has experimented with AI video knows the frustration of the four-second cutoff: just as a scene starts moving, it ends.
OpenAI just rolled out two practical upgrades to Sora 2 that give creators significantly more room to breathe.
Longer clips and web storyboards
First, video generation limits are getting a major bump. All users can now generate clips up to 15 seconds long across both the mobile app and web interface.
Pro subscribers get an even bigger canvas, with the ability to generate videos up to 25 seconds long on the web.
Alongside longer durations, OpenAI released Storyboards on the web for Pro users. Instead of relying purely on a single prompt roll, users can now structure scenes and sequences with more intentional narrative control.
Why it matters
Extending video length to 15 and 25 seconds turns AI video from a glorified GIF generator into a viable production tool. That is enough screen time to tell a short story, deliver a clean commercial hook, or cut a full social media asset.
We think pairing longer generation times with storyboards shows where OpenAI wants Sora 2 to go. The battle in AI video is shifting from pure visual novelty to direct creative control, and giving paying users the tools to direct multi-shot ideas is the first step toward real creative workflows.
