OpenAI launches ChatGPT Enterprise

Published Reach 42

OpenAI just launched ChatGPT Enterprise, offering enterprise-grade privacy and unlimited high-speed access. The new tier promises zero model training on company prompts, includes 32k context windows, and integrates SSO and admin management. Why it matters: It gives data-conscious enterprises an official, compliant path to deploy AI across large teams.

Every tech worker knows the open secret of the past nine months: employees across the Fortune 500 have been quietly pasting their spreadsheets and code into ChatGPT, while their IT departments sweat bullets over data leaks.

Now, OpenAI is officially giving corporate IT a reason to stand down. The company just launched ChatGPT Enterprise, a souped-up tier designed specifically for corporate workflows with serious security guarantees.

OpenAI notes that teams in over 80% of Fortune 500 companies had already adopted ChatGPT organically. Early enterprise testers include heavyweight names like Block, Canva, PwC, Carlyle, The Estée Lauder Companies, and Zapier.

Enterprise security meets uncapped GPT-4

The marquee pitch here is privacy. OpenAI explicitly guarantees that it will not train its models on corporate prompts or conversation data, meaning your internal numbers won't resurface in someone else's chat response.

The service is SOC 2 compliant, with data encrypted in transit via TLS 1.2+ and at rest using AES 256. IT administrators get an admin console featuring single sign-on (SSO), domain verification, and deployment analytics dashboards to manage seats at scale.

On the raw horsepower side, ChatGPT Enterprise removes all usage caps on GPT-4 entirely. It also runs up to twice as fast as the consumer standard version.

Bigger context and built-in data crunching

Context limitations are also getting a big boost. The enterprise plan includes a 32k token context window, allowing teams to feed in inputs and documents roughly four times larger than before.

It also packs unlimited access to Advanced Data Analysis, the feature formerly known as Code Interpreter. Financial analysts crunching market data or marketers slicing customer surveys can run code and inspect data directly inside the chat interface.

For internal collaboration, teams can create shareable chat templates to standardize common prompts. The tier even bundles free API credits for organizations looking to build out fully custom integrations.

Early user Klarna noted the rollout aims to elevate employee performance across its global operations. Another enterprise customer reported shaving an average of one hour off daily research tasks per person.

OpenAI also teased what is coming down the pipe, including a self-serve ChatGPT Business tier for smaller shops and deeper integrations with third-party work software.

Why it matters

This feels like OpenAI's most critical revenue milestone since launching Plus. By checking the boxes on SOC 2 and explicitly waiving training rights, OpenAI effectively dismantles the primary legal roadblock preventing enterprise legal teams from opening their corporate wallets.

For workers, it turns an underground productivity hack into an officially sanctioned daily driver. Getting unlimited, double-speed GPT-4 paired with Advanced Data Analysis means heavy-duty spreadsheet work and script debugging can happen without hitting arbitrary hourly caps.

We think the most interesting ripple effect will be in Redmond. Microsoft has been selling its enterprise vision hard with Microsoft 365 Copilot, and now OpenAI is knocking on the exact same corporate doors with its own managed offering. The close partners are officially friendly rivals on the enterprise desktop.
