NotebookLM just added slide decks and infographics
NotebookLM just rolled out a batch of creative updates, headlined by a new Slide Decks feature that turns your sources into visual stories alongside single-image infographics. The team also bumped custom persona limits from 500 to 5,000 characters and teased an upcoming Thinking UI.
NotebookLM isn't just for reading long PDFs and listening to AI podcasts anymore. It's now learning to build your slide decks.
NotebookLM team member @tokumin shared a late-night batch of release notes from a busy week, headlined by a new Slide Decks feature. According to the post, it might be the first product fully dependent on Nano Banana Pro, designed to turn your research materials into a coherent visual story.
Visual tools and 5,000-character personas
Alongside slide generation, the platform added an Infographics feature to summarize sources into a single graphic. Teachers and creators can use custom prompts to spin up lesson worksheets, and users now have direct style prompting for visual overviews.
For power users who customize their AI guide, the custom persona limit jumped from a cramped 500 characters up to 5,000 characters. The team is also rolling out an MVP for thinking UX and tossed a quick notebook creation button at the top of the interface.
Judging by the update, user demand is already heavy. @tokumin joked that their TPUs are definitely melting under the load.
Why it matters
We think this is a critical pivot for NotebookLM from passive consumption to active production.
Until now, users relied on NotebookLM to digest dense materials. By letting users directly spit out slides, infographics, and worksheets, Google is keeping knowledge workers inside its ecosystem instead of having them copy text over to presentation software. The real question is whether Google's compute infrastructure can keep up without long queue times.
