NotebookLM now lets you style video overviews with prompts

Published Reach 39

NotebookLM just launched custom video overview styles, letting users dictate the look and tone of their AI video summaries simply by typing a prompt into the customization box. Why it matters: It moves the tool beyond rigid templates, giving users direct creative control over automated summaries.

NotebookLM is giving its video overviews a personal touch.

The team announced that users can now create their own custom video overview styles simply by typing a prompt into a new customization box. The rollout begins today.

Prompt your way to a new look

Instead of being locked into a one-size-fits-all output, you can now steer the tone and presentation using natural language. The NotebookLM team even put out a call for community examples, noting that their expectations are sky-high.

Why it matters

For researchers and creators, default AI summaries often feel too stiff or repetitive to share directly. Adding prompt-based style controls gives you a quick lever to tailor content for different audiences, whether you need a casual explainer or an executive briefing.

We think this is a smart move by Google to transition NotebookLM from a passive study assistant into an active publishing studio. That said, it looks entirely reliant on standard prompt interpretation, so it will be worth testing just how reliably it keeps visual consistency across different styles.
