Midjourney v6 is now live
Midjourney just launched version 6 for public testing. It is not set as the default model yet, so users must manually select v6 in /settings or append --v6 to their prompts. Early users note that generation is running quite slowly right now.

Midjourney v6 is officially here, but you will need to flip a switch to use it.
Community reports on December 21 confirmed that Midjourney v6 has gone live for testing. It is not set as the default model yet, meaning users have to opt in manually to see what the new model can do.
How to turn it on right now
To access v6, head into Discord, type /settings, and select v6 from the options. Alternatively, you can simply append --v6 to the end of your prompt.
Early testers are already diving in, though there is an immediate catch: image generation is running noticeably slow right now, likely due to a rush of traffic hitting the servers all at once.
Why it matters
For digital creators, any major version bump from Midjourney represents a crucial shift in prompt handling and image output. Since it is not enabled by default, this looks like a soft launch to stress-test the infrastructure before a wider rollout.
We think that unless you absolutely need to benchmark prompts on day one, it might be wise to hold off for a day or two. With servers currently bogged down and generation times dragging, waiting for the initial rush to clear will save you plenty of idle waiting time.
