Krea AI turns flat images into movable 3D objects in real time

Published Reach 52

Krea AI just rolled out a tool that converts flat 2D images into 3D objects within its real-time generator. Users can rotate, reposition, and scale the converted models while the background updates live. Why it matters: it makes complex scene composition and character posing much easier without manual redrawing.

If you have ever tried generating consistent visual assets with AI, you know the pain of perspective changes. You get the perfect character or object, but the moment you ask for a profile view or a dynamic angle, the model hallucinates an entirely different scene.

Krea AI just dropped a new free feature that tackles this head-on: turning regular 2D images into interactive 3D objects inside their real-time canvas.

Instant 3D control on your canvas

The feature lives directly inside Krea's real-time workspace. You head over to the Generate menu, open Realtime, and drag any image onto the left drawing panel.

From there, a simple right-click brings up the Convert to 3D option. Once processed, you delete the original flat image, leaving behind a 3D model that you can scale, reposition, and rotate to any angle.

As you manipulate the object, the right-side preview window re-renders the scene in real time, matching lighting and surroundings. YouTuber Olivio Sarikas already shared a walkthrough showing how fluid the transformation feels in practice.

For creators worried about character drift across shots, Krea suggested combining this tool with Krea Train to finetune a custom Flux model. The platform is also bundling this alongside existing tricks like one-click environment swaps, consistent lighting controls, and 120 fps ultra-slow motion generation.

Behind the scenes, Krea remains notoriously secretive about its architecture. They rarely publish papers, but the tech belongs to the broader field of novel view synthesis, where researchers from Stability AI, Tencent, and Nvidia are all racing to turn flat images into navigable 3D spaces.

Why it matters

For digital artists, concept designers, and storytellers, this changes the game from blind slot-machine prompting to direct spatial staging. Instead of praying for the AI to guess the right camera angle or building rough proxy meshes in Blender, you can now grab an asset, rotate it, and let diffusion do the heavy lifting in real time.

Across the industry, this signals a major shift toward hybrid spatial interfaces. Text prompts have hit a wall for precise art direction. By turning 2D visual outputs back into 3D control handles, Krea bridges the gap between traditional 3D layout and generative rendering, putting pressure on competitors to adopt spatial canvas workflows.

We think Krea's approach is brilliant because they are not trying to be a full-fledged CAD or 3D modeling suite. They treat 3D purely as a lightweight steering wheel for 2D diffusion. The main catch is that novel view synthesis from single images still struggles with unseen backsides, meaning extreme rotations might introduce artifacts. But for rapid scene blocking, it is well worth testing today.
