YouTube's new AI coach tells advertisers what their videos are missing
Google just launched an AI-driven creative guidance tool in Google Ads for YouTube campaigns. The system automatically scans videos to check if logos appear in the first five seconds, flags suboptimal aspect ratios, and provides one-click AI voiceovers in 15 languages. Basically, it acts as an automated creative director to boost ad conversions across Shorts and feeds.

Anyone who has ever run video ads knows the pain: you spend days producing an asset, launch the campaign, and watch your budget burn with mediocre returns, usually having no idea what went wrong.
Now, Google wants its algorithms to critique your homework before you hit publish.
Google just rolled out a new AI-powered creative guidance feature directly inside Google Ads. Instead of guessing whether your video adheres to YouTube's best practices, the system automatically scans your upload and flags what is missing.
The four rules AI checks for you
Right now, the AI monitors four specific fundamentals in your video assets.
First, it checks for your brand logo. Specifically, whether your logo appears prominently within the first five seconds of the video.
Second, it verifies audio voiceover. YouTube viewers lean heavily on sound, so campaigns without spoken words are immediately tagged.
Third, it audits video duration against your campaign objective. Google recommends six or 15 seconds for awareness, one to three minutes for consideration, and 15 seconds for direct action.
Fourth, it checks your aspect ratios. The tool looks to see if your ad group contains all three essential orientations: horizontal, square, and vertical.
Built-in fixes right inside the dashboard
Google is not just grading your paper; it is giving you the tools to fix it on the spot.
If your video lacks a voiceover, Google Ads routes you to its built-in AI voice tool, which generates realistic voiceovers in 15 languages directly from text. Travel brand Monos tried this in their action campaigns and saw an 81% jump in conversions compared to ads without voiceover.
If your run times are off, the system routes you to a video trimming tool. If you are missing vertical or square variants for YouTube Shorts, pre-built templates help you reformat assets in minutes.
eBay leaned into this multi-format strategy by adding vertical assets across all ad groups and generating over 100 new variations. The result was a 114% increase in Shorts view rates, a 34% bump in conversion rates, and an 11% drop in CPMs.
Why it matters
Creative production has always been the single biggest bottleneck for video advertisers, especially smaller brands without dedicated video teams.
We think this is a smart operational play by Google. By integrating AI voiceovers in 15 languages and automated aspect-ratio templating directly into the ad workflow, Google effectively eliminates the friction of adapting one horizontal commercial into a multi-screen campaign.
Strategically, this is Google protecting its turf against TikTok. YouTube Shorts needs ad dollars, but advertisers often refuse to shoot bespoke vertical videos. If Google can turn your existing footage into a functional vertical ad with decent voiceover in two clicks, those ad dollars stay on YouTube.
The real trade-off here is creative fatigue. When millions of advertisers begin following the exact same AI playbook—front-loading logos, relying on the same synthetic voices, and hitting identical duration checkpoints—ads will inevitably start sounding like carbon copies of each other.
AI can reliably guarantee that your ads hit the technical baseline, but genuine engagement still requires a story that does not feel algorithmic.
