Stability AI isn't looking for a buyer, CEO says
Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque just pushed back against acquisition rumors, stating the company has never reached out to anyone to be acquired. Mostaque highlighted that the startup maintains simple governance, works with multiple strategic partners with more announcements ahead, and gave shoutouts to Jasper and Cohere.
When acquisition rumors hit a fever pitch, Stability AI’s boss stepped up to push back.
Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque took to social media to address what he described as a deluge in his inbox, laying out a quick five-point response.
Pushing back on the takeover talk
Mostaque flatly denied that the company is looking for an exit, stating that Stability AI has never reached out to anyone to be acquired.
He also gave a shoutout to ecosystem peers, calling Jasper an awesome partner and noting that Cohere is doing great work. According to Mostaque, Stability is currently working with multiple strategic partners, with more announcements on the way.
Addressing chatter around internal turbulence, he claimed the company has simple governance, wrapping up his note with a straightforward defense of open source.
Why it matters
As the flagship brand behind open image generation, Stability AI carries massive compute expenses, and whispers about its cash runway just will not go away. Any structural shakeup or sale would instantly rattle developers who rely on Stable Diffusion.
While Mostaque’s brief bullet points draw a line in the sand against immediate takeover chatter, we think a quick post will hardly silence broader concerns over the company's financial runway. For the builders and partners relying on its models, proof of a sustainable business model will matter much more than a tweet.
