Claude goes deep into law with 20+ MCP connectors and 12 plugins
Anthropic just rolled out 20+ MCP connectors and 12 practice-area plugins for Claude, directly targeting legal teams. The tools hook into platforms like DocuSign, iManage, and Harvey, while syncing context across Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Why it matters: legal pros are already Claude's top Cowork users, and this turns the AI into a bespoke junior associate across the entire firm.
If you want to see where AI hype translates into real-world cash, look no further than the legal industry.
In March, legal AI darling Harvey raised $200 million at an $11 billion valuation. Just last month, rival Legora hauled in a $600 million Series D and put Jude Law on billboards. But instead of building yet another standalone legal walled garden, Anthropic is taking a very different route: it is turning Claude into the operating layer that sits on top of the tools lawyers already use.
Anthropic officially launched 20+ new Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectors and 12 dedicated practice-area plugins, available immediately to all paying Claude subscribers.
Deep integration where lawyers actually live
Lawyers don't spend their days inside generic web dashboards; they live inside Microsoft Office. Anthropic met them there by carrying context across Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
A redline finished in Word flows straight into an Outlook cover note without having to re-explain the counterparty's edits. From there, Claude can turn the agreement into a closing checklist in Excel or condense the key risks into a board deck in PowerPoint.
Inside Word, Claude can now scrub sensitive internal comments before documents get sent outside the firm, check formatting, and compare clauses against custom firm playbooks.
Meanwhile, the 12 new plugins cover specific niches including commercial contracts, litigation, employment, privacy, and AI governance. Instead of acting like generic prompts, each plugin kicks off with a short setup interview. Claude learns your company risk tolerance, escalation trees, and house writing style before touching a single draft.
Hooking into the entire legal tech stack
Legal tech is famously fragmented, but Anthropic's new batch of MCP connectors bridges nearly every major platform lawyers touch.
For contract management and document review, Claude now connects directly to DocuSign, Ironclad, Box, and Datasite virtual data rooms. It also hooks into enterprise document repositories like iManage and NetDocuments, strictly respecting organizational permission bounds.
Most interestingly, Anthropic is integrating with traditional legal research giants and even its direct competitors. Claude now connects to Thomson Reuters' CoCounsel Legal, Westlaw, and Practical Law, alongside CourtListener from the Free Law Project. It even includes a connector for Harvey itself, letting users query Harvey legal intelligence right inside Claude.
Why it matters
For legal practitioners and in-house teams, this is one of the most practical enterprise upgrades we have seen all year. It doesn't force legal teams to overhaul their existing workflows or migrate to a new vendor. Instead, it turns Claude into a connective tissue across their existing stack, making it well worth testing for routine triage, NDAs, and deal-room diligence.
For the broader AI ecosystem, Anthropic's strategic move is brilliant. While startups like Harvey and Legora spend hundreds of millions trying to own the full end-to-end legal platform, Anthropic is treating them as downstream nodes via open protocols. Claude is positioning itself as the central dispatcher rather than just another specialized tool.
However, the risks in this space are uniquely high. As courts across the US grapple with AI slop and fake citations—California even issued a first-of-its-kind fine against an attorney who hallucinated case law with ChatGPT—any error in a fiduciary setting is catastrophic. Anthropic's integration with verified platforms like Thomson Reuters helps curb hallucinations, but we think firms will still need rigorous human-in-the-loop safeguards to prevent costly legal blunders.
