Anthropic connects Claude to Microsoft 365

Published Reach 41

Anthropic just rolled out a Microsoft 365 connector and enterprise search for Claude, letting the chatbot tap directly into your daily work tools. Claude can now pull context across SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook emails, and Teams threads to answer questions. It basically turns Claude into an internal company knowledge hub, available now for Team and Enterprise tiers.

Hunting down a specific project update usually means digging through three weeks of Outlook threads, a dozen Teams channels, and a forgotten SharePoint folder. Anthropic wants to kill that routine for good.

The AI lab rolled out a native Microsoft 365 connector alongside a new enterprise search feature, letting Claude tap directly into corporate knowledge bases.

Claude breaks into Microsoft's backyard

The new integration runs on Anthropic's Model Context Protocol. In simple terms, it hooks Claude straight into the Microsoft tools most enterprises live in every single day.

Instead of downloading documents and manually uploading them to chat, users can now have Claude scan files across SharePoint and OneDrive. It can sift through project specs and roadmaps directly from company libraries.

It does not stop at static files. Claude can also parse email threads in Outlook to track client sentiment or project milestones, and comb through Teams chats and meeting summaries to surface what was actually decided.

Company-wide brain in a single project

Anthropic also packaged this into an organization-wide enterprise search feature. Admins can set up a dedicated shared project carrying the company name, complete with tailored prompts to guide Claude across connected apps.

Once configured, everyone in the workspace gets automatic access. When you ask a question, Claude pulls from the entire organization's collective data rather than just your personal desktop.

For instance, asking about travel expense rules will trigger Claude to cross-reference HR handbooks in SharePoint, recent leadership memos in Outlook, and internal guidelines from chat rooms into one coherent answer.

The feature is available today for Claude Team and Enterprise customers, though company admins must enable the connector before individual users can authenticate their Microsoft accounts.

Why it matters

We think this is a bold offensive move directly into Microsoft's most lucrative territory. Microsoft has spent billions pitching Copilot as the default brain for Office 365, but many knowledge workers still prefer Claude for deep reasoning and writing.

By leveraging the open Model Context Protocol, Anthropic makes Claude a viable alternative inside Microsoft's own walled garden without forcing companies to rip and replace their existing document stack. For teams already paying for Claude Enterprise, this drastically cuts down context-switching.

The biggest question mark will be enterprise permission hygiene. Pulling data across emails, chat logs, and shared folders requires strict compliance boundaries so lower-level employees don't inadvertently surface confidential executive discussions. How cleanly Anthropic respects Microsoft's native access controls will make or break enterprise adoption.
