Claude adds scheduled tasks in Cowork to automate recurring work

Published Reach 40

Anthropic just rolled out scheduled tasks inside Claude's Cowork feature, allowing the assistant to execute recurring workflows automatically on a set schedule. Instead of manual prompts every time, Claude can now handle jobs like morning briefs, weekly spreadsheet refreshes, and Friday deck updates on its own—moving AI from an on-demand chatbot to an always-on colleague.

If you rely on AI for your daily routine, having to manually prompt the same request every single morning gets old fast.

Anthropic just rolled out scheduled tasks inside Claude's Cowork capability. The update lets Claude automatically handle recurring jobs at designated times without requiring you to manually trigger them each run.

Claude gets a schedule of its own

The new capability is built specifically for predictable, ongoing office workflows.

Claude can now take on recurring responsibilities on a set schedule. Anthropic highlighted a few common use cases, including delivering automated morning briefs, running weekly spreadsheet updates, and drafting team presentations every Friday afternoon.

Basically, instead of waiting around for your prompt, Claude operates more like a background assistant running routines on a calendar.

Why it matters

This is a quiet but critical shift from Claude being a reactive chatbot to becoming a proactive digital coworker.

For knowledge workers bogged down by routine reporting, the upside is immediate. Automating predictable work like morning roundups or weekly data pulls takes the friction out of daily AI adoption.

Across the industry, everyone is racing toward fully autonomous agents, and time-based triggers are table stakes for fitting into actual workplace routines. We think it is a smart, pragmatic update, though it remains to be seen how well Claude handles error recovery when a scheduled task runs into unexpected data without a human watching live.
