Claude Code adds local scheduled tasks on desktop
Anthropic just launched local scheduled tasks in Claude Code desktop, allowing developers to automate and run recurring workflows directly on their local machines. Tasks execute on a set schedule without cloud processing as long as your computer stays awake. Why it matters: Claude Code is evolving beyond interactive coding assistance into an autonomous development tool.
Instead of babysitting Claude Code and typing prompts every morning, you can now set it on a timer.
Anthropic launched local scheduled tasks in Claude Code Desktop. The new feature allows developers to set up recurring schedules for automated tasks directly inside their local workspace. As long as your computer stays awake, Claude Code handles the routine in the background without needing cloud-based execution.
From coding assistant to background worker
Until now, Claude Code has mostly functioned as an interactive companion where you give an instruction and watch it refactor files.
With scheduled tasks, Anthropic is pushing it deeper into autonomous workflows. Developers can now delegate routine developer chores to Claude Code, letting it execute scheduled jobs locally without setting up dedicated cloud infrastructure.
Why it matters
We think Anthropic made a smart move by keeping this strictly local. For individual developers, keeping code and task execution on the local machine eliminates the friction of cloud pipelines and avoids sending sensitive proprietary code to remote servers.
The trade-off is clear: the tasks only run while your machine is awake. It won't replace fully automated remote CI systems anytime soon, but it turns Claude Code into a reliable desktop assistant that can quietly handle your daily build-and-test routines before you even sit down to work.
