Claude Cowork adds local Projects

Published Reach 37

Claude Cowork just rolled out Projects to keep tasks and context in one focused workspace. All files and instructions stay locally on your computer instead of the cloud, and you can import existing projects in a single click or start fresh.

Anthropic just gave Claude Cowork a major organizational upgrade.

The company introduced Projects inside Cowork, a new feature designed to keep ongoing tasks, instructions, and context gathered neatly around specific work streams.

Local files, zero-fuss setup

The most notable twist here is where your stuff lives. Unlike standard cloud-synced workspaces, files and system instructions within Projects stay directly on your local computer.

That means your actual data stays on-device rather than getting pushed to external servers.

Getting started doesn't require a painful migration either. Users can spin up a new project from scratch or import existing project setups with a single click.

Why it matters

Anthropic is tackling two of the biggest headaches in AI work: context sprawl and data paranoia.

If you regularly use Claude for long-term deliverables, jumping between scattered prompts gets messy fast. Giving tasks a dedicated, persistent home saves real time. More importantly, keeping documents and instructions strictly on local machines lowers the barrier for workers handling confidential or sensitive company material who would otherwise get blocked by IT policies.

As AI wrappers race to become full-fledged daily operating systems, winning the local desktop workflow might prove just as critical as raw model reasoning.
