Canva unwraps a massive AI design suite
Canva just debuted a heavy slate of AI features at Canva Create, led by OpenAI-powered Magic Design to spin up curated templates and presentation decks from a single prompt. The refresh also adds Magic Edit for instant object swaps, expands Magic Write across all formats, and bumps text-to-image resolution by 16x.

Earlier this week, over 125 million Canva users woke up to mysterious wrapped gift boxes sitting right on their homepages.
At its Canva Create event, the company finally unwrapped them on stage. The takeaway is massive: Canva just embedded a whole fleet of generative AI superpowers across its entire design suite, aiming squarely at the friction in everyday content creation.
Unboxing the Magic additions
Leading the drop is Magic Design, powered by OpenAI. Instead of staring at an intimidating blank canvas, you can now upload an image, pick a style, and let the tool automatically generate personalized templates with matched fonts, graphics, and layouts. The same tech also builds presentation first drafts, complete with outlines and slides, from a short text prompt.
Magic Write, which debuted inside Canva Docs, is no longer trapped in documents. It is now rolled out across the entire Visual Worksuite, meaning you can draft copy for websites, presentations, and whiteboards in 18 languages.
Photo editing received its own AI makeover. Magic Eraser wipes out unwanted background items in seconds, while Magic Edit lets you brush over an object and type what you want to swap in, like changing a teapot into a bouquet of flowers. Meanwhile, the built-in text-to-image generator received an overhaul: after generating over 60 million images in four months, Canva boosted its output resolution by 16 times and cut generation speed by roughly 68%.
For video and animation, a new Beat Sync tool automatically snaps footage cuts to musical beats with a single click. Users also get a freehand Draw tool with shape smoothing, custom animation paths, and a one-click translation feature supporting over 100 languages. For enterprise teams, Canva bundled Brand Hub, centralizing brand kits, guidelines, and assets inside the editor.
Why it matters
Canva did not try to reinvent foundational models; instead, it solved the workflow problem that makes most standalone AI tools tedious to use.
Right now, using generative AI usually requires bouncing between three different tabs: one to generate an image, another to remove the background, and a third to layout the graphics. By baking text-to-image, inpainting, copy generation, and rhythm-based video editing directly into an existing drag-and-drop workspace, Canva just made AI invisible and immediately useful for everyday marketers and creators.
We think this is a serious shot across Adobe's bow in the workplace productivity tier. Professional designers will stick to high-end software, but the vast majority of corporate decks and social posts are made by non-designers. Canva is meeting them where they already work.
The catch, of course, is the risk of visual fatigue. When anyone can spin up a complete slide deck in five seconds, mediocre templates will flood inboxes. Even so, if you find yourself wrestling with presentation formatting or social assets this week, these tools are well worth an immediate test drive.
