Apple just announced the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, upgrading its living room box with Siri AI and an A19 chip. Built-in far-field microphones enable hands-free voice control, while Apple Intelligence generates smart home camera summaries directly on the big screen. It also supports a new four-speaker surround sound setup with HomePods.

If you have ever spent ten minutes digging through couch cushions just to find the TV remote, Apple is finally offering a way out.

Apple just announced the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, transforming its streaming box with next-gen Apple Intelligence, hands-free hardware, and beefed-up living room audio. The new model starts at $299 and hits stores on November 13.

A truly hands-free Siri AI

The centerpiece of the new Apple TV 4K is Siri AI, an overhaul powered by Apple Intelligence that runs across tvOS 27.2 in beta. Instead of basic voice searches, Siri now offers a conversational, full-screen interface. You can ask for Emmy-winning comedy shows, browse posters, or ask mid-movie questions like where a scene was filmed or if a movie is fine for a teenager, which pop up in subtle overlays.

If you have an iPhone with Apple Intelligence, the system taps into your personal context, letting you simply ask to play a show a specific friend recommended.

To make this actually usable from across the room, Apple built in three far-field microphones with echo cancellation. You can talk to Siri completely hands-free even while a movie is blasting. Apple says audio data stays isolated in Secure Exclaves on the chip, keeping it private from apps and Apple alike.

A19 silicon and four-speaker surround

Under the hood, the set-top box runs on the new A19 chip, delivering up to 50 percent faster CPU performance and double the GPU power of the prior model. It also adds a dedicated AV1 hardware decoder to stream high-resolution video using less bandwidth.

For audio enthusiasts, Apple TV 4K can now wirelessly pair with four HomePod mini 2 speakers or matched pairs of second-generation HomePods, automatically calibrating room acoustics to deliver a true four-speaker surround setup.

The refreshed Siri Remote also gains Find My support with Precision Finding and built-in speaker chime, finally solving the lost-remote headache. As a smart home hub, the box now uses AI to summarize security camera footage and let you answer smart doorbells directly on-screen.

Why it matters

We think this release signals Apple's real vision for Apple Intelligence in the home: making the television an ambient, hands-free hub rather than just a passive screen.

For existing Apple users, the ability to build a wireless four-channel home theater with HomePods and control everything without touching a remote is undeniably slick. But at $299, it is a massive price hike compared to previous generations, making it a tough sell for anyone who just wants a basic 4K streaming puck.

In the broader streaming market, where players like Roku and Amazon have pushed hardware into low-margin territory dominated by ads, Apple is taking the luxury compute route. Putting an A19 chip in a TV box pushes competitors to rethink how AI should interact with the biggest screen in the house.

That said, the launch comes with noticeable asterisks. Siri AI remains in beta, is limited to English in select countries, and leaves out the EU at launch. If you are outside supported regions, you are essentially paying premium silicon pricing for standard streaming.
