Apple's upgraded Siri might arrive this fall after all

Published Reach 34

Apple is reportedly planning to roll out its delayed, smarter Siri features this fall rather than pushing them to 2026, according to The New York Times. The revamped assistant can handle complex actions like editing and sending photos on command, likely landing right alongside iOS 19. Why it matters: If Apple actually delivers this fall, it gives the company a fighting chance to prove it isn't completely falling behind Google and Meta in consumer AI.

For months, the narrative around Apple’s AI ambitions has been a string of delays and frustration. Just as everyone started resigning themselves to waiting until 2026 for a smarter Siri, a new report says we might actually see it much sooner.

According to The New York Times, three people familiar with the plans say Apple still intends to launch its revamped, AI-powered Siri this fall. That means the real Apple Intelligence assistant could drop right alongside the initial release of iOS 19, rather than sliding into 2026 as Bloomberg previously reported.

The fall target and cross-app actions

The gap between what Apple promised and what it actually shipped has been widening. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported earlier that the heavy-lifting Siri features were pushed all the way to early 2026, possibly landing around iOS 19.3.

Now, Tripp Mickle of The New York Times reports that Apple hasn't abandoned the original timeline. The upgraded Siri being readied for the fall is supposed to handle real multi-step tasks across apps, like editing a photo and texting it to a friend based entirely on a voice prompt.

Mickle also notes that Apple leaders reportedly believe they still have time to get artificial intelligence right. Their rationale? Competitors like Google and Meta haven't completely cracked the mobile AI formula yet either.

All eyes are now locked on WWDC25 this June. Siri is the elephant in the room, and Apple will have no choice but to commit to a firm delivery window on stage.

Why it matters

For iPhone owners, this is the difference between Apple Intelligence being a hollow buzzword or an actual daily tool. Right now, basic text summarization and clean-up tools don't justify upgrading to recent hardware. A Siri that can actually navigate apps and manipulate your personal data on request is the entire sales pitch.

For the wider industry, this signals whether Apple can still execute complex software under intense pressure. While Google rapidly integrates Gemini deeper into Android, Apple risks losing its grip on the premium smartphone narrative if its flagship assistant is perpetually delayed.

We think betting on the idea that rivals haven't figured it out yet is remarkably risky for Apple. If the company rushes a half-baked Siri out the door this fall just to hit a deadline, users will notice every hallucination and failed action. At this stage, delivering a buggy assistant might actually do more brand damage than simply admitting it needs until 2026.
