Apple sets WWDC 2025 dates for June 9
Apple just announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25) will run online from June 9 to 13. The conference will be completely free for all developers and spotlight the next generation of Apple software, with a limited in-person event kicking off at Apple Park on opening day.

Clear your calendars for early June: Apple's biggest software week of the year now has an official date.
Apple announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC25, will run online from June 9 to June 13, 2025. Just like in recent years, the entire conference will be free to stream and explore for all developers worldwide.
The kickoff at Apple Park
While the conference is built as an online-first event, Apple is still rolling out the red carpet for a select group on day one.
On June 9, developers and students will have the chance to attend an in-person special event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Space is limited, and attendees have to apply through the WWDC25 website.
Those who make the cut can watch the Keynote and the Platforms State of the Union presentations live on campus, hang out with peers, and meet directly with Apple engineers and designers in both one-on-one and group labs.
If you are not heading to California, everything else remains fully digital. The entire week of technical video sessions and online consultation labs will be accessible across the Apple Developer app, the Apple Developer website, and Apple's YouTube channel.
A big spotlight on student coders
Apple is also keeping up its focus on younger creators through the Swift Student Challenge.
Applicants will find out their status on March 27. Winners get eligible to apply for the June 9 in-person event at Apple Park.
On top of that, Apple is singling out 50 Distinguished Winners for outstanding submissions, who will be invited to Cupertino for an all-expenses-style three-day experience.
According to Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, the company cannot wait to share the latest tools and technologies designed to help developers continue innovating.
Why it matters
If you build software for Apple devices, WWDC is ground zero. It sets the technical roadmap for the rest of the year, dictating which APIs, frameworks, and system updates your apps will have to adapt to.
In our view, Apple's hybrid setup remains the smartest playbook in Big Tech. Making all documentation, sessions, and labs completely free online democratizes access for indie developers globally, while the single-day campus event maintains brand prestige and direct developer relations without the headaches of a weeklong convention.
However, the real pressure on June 9 will be delivering on developer expectations. The software ecosystem is eager to see where Apple's operating systems and developer tools are actually heading, and WWDC25 will be the ultimate test of whether the tools match the ambition.
