Google reportedly pours another $1B into Anthropic

Google is cutting another massive check for Anthropic.

According to the Financial Times, the search giant has poured roughly $1 billion in fresh funding into the AI company. That brings Google's total stake in Anthropic to around $3 billion, following a $2 billion round late last year.

Anthropic is also reportedly hunting for another $2 billion from investors like Lightspeed at a steep $60 billion valuation. Crunchbase data shows the startup has now raised an eye-popping $14.7 billion to date.

What Claude is building next

The cash is fueling an aggressive 2025 product roadmap. In interviews yesterday, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei shared what is coming down the pipe.

Claude is set to get two-way voice chat and real-time web access, closing lingering feature gaps with ChatGPT.

Anthropic is also readying an AI system dubbed the Virtual Collaborator. Amodei says this system will run directly on PCs to handle complex workflows, write and compile code, verify results, and work alongside users inside apps like Slack and Google Docs.

Why it matters

We think Google's move shows just how valuable Anthropic remains as a hedge against its own in-house Gemini efforts. Google wants Claude tightly hooked into its ecosystem no matter what.

For users, a PC-level Virtual Collaborator that can write, compile, and debug code right inside workplace tools would mark a meaningful jump from basic chatbot to autonomous teammate. But at a staggering $60 billion valuation, Anthropic will soon have to prove these agentic workflows can translate into serious recurring revenue.
