Amazon CEO teases ‘beautiful’ Alexa hardware coming this fall
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy revealed that a brand-new lineup of "beautiful" devices is landing this fall to accompany the upgraded Alexa Plus. The conversational assistant costs $19.99 a month or comes bundled with Prime, and Amazon's hardware leadership hinted that richer screens will play a massive role in the next generation.

Amazon is giving Alexa a brain transplant, and now it wants to give it a fresh body to match.
During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy revealed that the company is preparing a "brand new lineup of devices that are coming in the fall that are beautiful." The upcoming hardware is designed to accompany Amazon's newly upgraded conversational assistant, Alexa Plus.
Leaning heavy on screens
Amazon just announced Alexa Plus on Wednesday, pitching a much more capable assistant that can book Ubers and track down concert tickets. It costs $19.99 a month, though it comes bundled free with an Amazon Prime subscription. Amazon noted that almost every modern Echo device will support it, leaving older generations behind.
While Jassy kept product specs under wraps, former Microsoft hardware chief Panos Panay—who took over Amazon's devices team in 2023—has already hinted at the direction. Panay previously said he believes in screens "in a massive way," a philosophy that already produced a massive 21-inch Echo Show last year.
Why it matters
For existing Echo owners, there is zero rush to upgrade. If you already pay for Prime, your current devices will handle Alexa Plus just fine without spending a dime on new hardware this fall.
Amazon's playbook here is pretty clear: bundle expensive agentic AI ($20/month stand-alone) into Prime to stop subscriber churn, while tasking hardware veteran Panay with making Echo gadgets look like premium decor rather than cheap plastic pucks. The hard part will be convincing buyers that smart home displays actually need an AI upgrade, especially when voice assistants have felt stuck in place for years.
