Adobe brings Firefly generative AI into an all-new Express editor
Adobe just rolled out a major revamp of Adobe Express, integrating its Firefly generative AI directly into the browser workflow for text-to-image and text effects. The update brings an all-in-one editor covering drag-and-drop video creation, PDF enhancements, and real-time syncing with Photoshop and Illustrator assets.

For years, creating quick social content meant bouncing across half a dozen tabs—one for templates, one for AI generation, and another to trim a video clip.
Adobe is tackling that exact headache with a major overhaul of Adobe Express. The refreshed web app integrates its Firefly generative AI natively and rolls out an all-in-one editor designed to keep every asset in a single workspace.
Firefly moves into the daily workflow
The marquee upgrade here is bringing Firefly's text-to-image and text effects straight into Express through everyday conversational language.
Instead of jumping into a separate beta playground to generate artwork, creators can type a prompt directly inside their layout. You can ask for a unicorn eating birthday cake for an invitation, or wrap letters in floral arrangements or balloon textures with a single phrase.
Adobe is pairing these generative tools with an enormous library of pre-cleared assets. The new release gives users access to nearly 200 million assets—including video and design templates, royalty-free Adobe Stock photos, footage, and audio—alongside nearly 22,000 fonts.
Drag-and-drop video meets PDF editing
Beyond AI generation, Express has rebuilt its editor into a unified workspace that handles multiple formats without switching tools.
Video creation has been stripped down to simple drag-and-drop mechanics. Users can stitch together video clips, custom artwork, and music tracks to produce TikTok clips or Instagram Reels without prior editing experience.
The update also brings full PDF editing capabilities into the web canvas. Creators can import documents, enhance their visual styling, and tweak text directly within the editor.
A handful of quick-action utilities round out the toolkit, such as instant background removal, audio-driven character animation, and GIF conversion. For teams using Creative Cloud, Express links directly with Photoshop and Illustrator assets, keeping linked files automatically synced across apps during real-time collaboration.
Why it matters
For solo creators, small business owners, and non-designers, this release lowers the barrier to producing polished marketing collateral. You no longer have to conquer a steep learning curve or pay for multiple point solutions just to publish a daily social clip.
For the broader industry, Adobe is taking dead aim at Canva's dominant position in lightweight creative tooling. While Canva raced ahead by making design accessible, Adobe is countering with its deepest moats: proprietary enterprise sync, deep Creative Cloud interoperability, and commercially viable AI training.
We think integrating Firefly directly into Express was the most logical move Adobe could make. The real question is whether casual users will stick with Express over simpler rivals once initial novelty wears off, but offering real-time Photoshop sync and massive royalty-free libraries gives them a compelling reason to stay.
