You.com adds multimodal charts and interactive apps to chat search
You.com just upgraded its chat-based search engine with multimodal capabilities, embedding interactive widgets like live stock charts, tables, and code directly into conversations instead of relying on text alone. Founder Richard Socher argues visual and interactive answers curb LLM hallucinations while differentiating the startup from Google and Microsoft.

Ask most AI chatbots for a live stock price, and they will confidently hallucinate a number that has nothing to do with reality.
You.com is trying to fix that problem by moving beyond simple text. On February 15, the AI search startup launched multimodal chat search, embedding dynamic visuals, charts, tables, and interactive apps directly inside conversational answers.
Moving past pure text
Here is how it works in practice: if you ask which company holds the largest CRM market share, You.com answers Salesforce. If you immediately follow up with its stock price, instead of spinning up made-up digits, the engine serves an interactive stock chart right in the chat stream.
Founder Richard Socher argues that language models should not be forced to guess numbers. Bringing apps, graphs, code, and tables into the conversation simply makes more sense when text is the wrong format for the job.
Socher is keeping the exact technical architecture under wraps for now. He noted that competitors are eager to copy what they are doing, so You.com will not share its secret sauce until the startup reaches profitability or a default-alive state.
An anti-Google playbook for monetization
Founded in late 2020, You.com raised a $25 million funding round last summer. Socher frequently points out that his team launched generative search back in December, beating both Microsoft and Google to market by several months.
He has long framed You.com as an open alternative to Google, criticizing traditional search engines for turning AI into an ad-delivery machine. You.com claims double-digit monthly percentage growth and millions of daily active users, but it has no interest in copying the traditional ad model.
Instead, the company plans to explore monetization this year through privacy-friendly ads, subscription add-ons like an essay writing tool, and third-party app revenue sharing. By taking a cut when users purchase services through in-chat apps, Socher wants to monetize the end of the funnel rather than crowding search results with sponsored links.
Why it matters
Text is often the worst possible medium for structured data. For everyday users researching finance, code, or comparisons, getting an interactive widget beats reading three paragraphs of AI-generated fluff every single time.
For the search landscape, You.com is highlighting a blind spot in early generative search rollouts. While Microsoft and Google rushed to plug text-heavy chatbots into their homepages, You.com is showing that the future of search is interactive and modular, functioning more like a dynamic operating system than a simple chat terminal.
Still, we think staying ahead will be brutal. Rich UI widgets and real-time API integrations are an interface innovation, not an insurmountable moat. Unless You.com builds an indispensable ecosystem of third-party mini-apps before the tech giants catch up, its multimodal head start could quickly become table stakes for everyone else.
