X is adding text-to-video and a romance AI companion
Elon Musk just teased major AI additions coming to X, integrating acquired startup Hotshot with Grok to launch a text-to-video generator dubbed "Imagine." The platform also previewed "Valentine," a romance-focused male AI companion designed to hold virtual dates, expanding its push into native AI entertainment.
Elon Musk is preparing to turn X into both a viral video factory and a full-blown virtual dating service.
X is gearing up to integrate Hotshot, the text-to-video AI startup it acquired back in March, directly into the platform. Musk confirmed the feature will be called Imagine and will fuse Hotshot's models with xAI’s Grok engine.
The goal, according to Musk, is simple: let people create viral videos fast using text or even spoken prompts, giving everyday users tools rivaling Google’s Veo.
A Twilight vampire meets Christian Grey
Video wasn't the only headline Musk dropped. He also shared a preview of Valentine, a new male AI companion coming to the app.
Musk claimed Valentine will make hearts race, describing him as a blend between Edward Cullen from Twilight and Christian Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey.
The character joins X's existing AI lineup, which already features an anime-inspired character named Ani and an unruly red panda named Rudy. Musk indicated Valentine will support NSFW interactions and virtual dates.
Why it matters
We think X is taking a calculated gamble on human desires rather than corporate productivity.
For creators and shitposters, native text-to-video inside the posting composer could be huge. If Imagine actually delivers smooth results from casual prompts, the barrier to hopping on breaking memes drops to zero, and it is definitely worth playing with on launch day.
At the same time, turning X into an adult companion playground looks like a high-wire act. Musk clearly sees the absurd engagement numbers driving platforms like Character.ai and wants a slice of that user attention.
However, baking NSFW romance into an already chaotic public square is bound to give major brand advertisers another headache. It might spike screen time, but it takes the platform further away from being a clean everything app.
