Unitree unveils As2 companion robot with heavy-duty muscle
Unitree just revealed the As2, a quadruped companion robot packing 90N·m of torque and industrial-grade specs into a compact frame. It features over 4 hours of no-load runtime, IP54 rainproofing, and can haul a 15kg payload across more than 13km. With open secondary development, it basically bridges domestic companionship with practical utility.

If you thought companion robots were just glorified desk toys, Unitree is trying to change your mind.
Unitree Robotics unveiled the As2, a brand-new quadruped robot marketed as a companion, but packed with specs usually reserved for industrial hardware.
Heavy-duty specs in a compact frame
Unitree describes the As2 as combining a compact footprint with industrial capability. The robot features a maximum joint torque of 90N·m, signaling serious locomotion and agility.
Battery life and payload are equally practical. The As2 offers over 4 hours of runtime without a load. Even while carrying a 15kg payload, its operational range exceeds 13km. It also comes with an IP54 rainproof rating and supports open secondary development.
Why it matters
Most consumer quadruped bots struggle to find a real purpose beyond short parlor tricks. We think Unitree's approach here is clever: by slapping a 15kg payload capacity and a 13km range onto a "companion" unit, they are essentially turning it into a robotic pack mule.
For outdoor enthusiasts, surveyors, or field workers, this transforms a robot pet into something genuinely useful that can carry gear over long distances. It also blurs the line between consumer companionship and light industrial utility, forcing competitors to rethink what an entry-level quadruped should actually be capable of doing.
