AI bots push Wikimedia's bandwidth up 50%
Wikimedia Foundation just revealed that multimedia download bandwidth on Wikimedia Commons has surged 50% since January 2024, driven entirely by AI scrapers harvesting training data. While bots make up only 35% of pageviews, they account for 65% of the most resource-heavy traffic by digging up uncached, obscure files.
