Salesforce's language model just designed working proteins from scratch
Salesforce and UC San Francisco researchers used an AI language model called ProGen to create entirely new, functional proteins. Trained on 280 million protein sequences, the model treats amino acids like words in a sentence, producing synthetic enzymes that successfully killed bacteria in lab tests. It turns out generative AI can imitate millions of years of natural evolution in seconds.
