Meta open-sources speech AI covering 4,000+ languages
Meta just open-sourced its Massively Multilingual Speech (MMS) models, expanding text-to-speech and speech-to-text capabilities to over 1,100 languages—a tenfold leap over current tools. It can also identify more than 4,000 spoken languages, trained on diverse recordings of translated religious texts. It is a critical push toward saving endangered dialects and bringing speech AI to underserved communities.
