Idol turns single 2D images into 3D Gaussians on consumer GPUs

Sperid Labs just open-sourced Idol, a new model that turns a single 2D image into a standard 3D Gaussian splat with up to a million points. It handles background removal, accurately guesses the hidden backside, and caps out at just 7.2 GB of VRAM. Why it matters: High-fidelity 3D reconstruction is finally fast and lean enough for local desktop rigs.

Russia's first humanoid robot faceplants on debut

Russia's first AI-powered humanoid robot, AIdol, just made its public debut in Moscow and immediately collapsed face-first onto the stage floor. Maker Idol blamed a calibration error in its balance algorithms. While the robot touts 77% domestic parts and a 19-motor silicone face, the viral stumble proves reliable bipedal balance is still brutally hard to nail.
