A deep dive into the top 50 AI tools reveals they generated over 24 billion visits between September 2022 and August 2023, with ChatGPT commanding a staggering 14 billion visits alone. Character AI and Google Bard took the next spots in net growth. Conversational chatbots drove the bulk of web attention, with more than 63% of users logging on from mobile devices.
Google just added image responses to Bard, pulling relevant visuals straight from Google Search alongside links to their sources. Users can now explicitly ask for pictures to back up recommendations, though it is currently limited to English prompts. Google plans to follow up with image generation and Google Lens inputs soon.
Geoffrey Hinton, widely considered one of the “Godfathers of AI,” just resigned from Google after more than a decade so he can speak freely about the technology's risks. Hinton admitted he partially regrets his life's work, warning that escalating corporate race could flood the world with fake media—and eventually pose an existential threat to humanity.
