OpenAI's o1 model just outperformed two attending physicians in diagnosing 76 real emergency room cases, according to a new Harvard study published in Science. Tested directly on raw electronic medical records, o1 nailed the diagnosis 67% of the time during triage, topping the doctors' 55% and 50% marks. While critics noted the test used internists instead of ER specialists, researchers say prospective trials in real care settings are urgently needed.
