ElevenLabs clamps down on political voice clones

ElevenLabs just introduced new safeguards to prevent its AI voice tech from meddling in the 2024 elections. The company rolled out a "no-go voices" safeguard that blocks users from mimicking active political candidates, starting with US and UK races, and explicitly outlawed political robocalls and impersonation chatbots. Why it matters: With critical elections taking place worldwide, the pressure is on AI voice platforms to curb convincing deepfakes before they derail voter trust.

ElevenLabs launches a tool to catch its own AI voices

ElevenLabs just rolled out the AI Speech Classifier, a web tool that lets anyone check if an audio clip was generated with its voice tech. Users can upload an audio or video file without logging in, and it checks the first minute to return a probability score plus closest voice matches. The catch: it doesn't reliably identify audio made with its Eleven v3 model yet.
